100 Push Up Challenge

Here is the plan I am following: http://hundredpushups.com/

I did it! (Video from Aug 21)

April 17, 2014 – Initial Test: 48

Great! I can’t believe I managed over 40. It makes a difference when you’re are really trying to output every last bit of power.

The initial test helps set the baseline on where I should be starting the program so it’s challenging enough. I think about every 2 weeks we take another exhaustion test.

Based on the plan, I can skip ahead to week 3 once I start the actual program.

Dan: My buddy Dan is joining me – he knocked out 39. Well done!

April 19, 2014 – Week 3, Day 1, Level 3: Total of 83. Sets of 12, 16, 16, 16, 23

I was still a little bit sore from the initial test. Luckily I was still able to finish the day.

Dan: Total: 73. Sets of 13, 17, 13, 13, 17

April 21, 2014 – Week 3, Day 2, Level 3: Total of 99. Sets of 19, 22, 17, 17, 24

I feel pretty good about the pushups today. I actually was so excited on the first set that I did 19 instead of 18. Ooops.

Dan: Total: 80. Sets of 14, 19, 14, 14, 19

April 23, 2014 – Week 3, Day 3, Level 3: Total of 115. Sets of 19, 27, 22, 22, 25

I think I need to take 2 days off before moving to Week 4.

Dan: Total: 89. Sets of 16, 20, 16, 16, 21

April 26, 2014 – Week 4, Day 1, Level 3: Total of 103. Sets of 18, 22, 19, 19, 25

I definitely needed the break…

April 28, 2014 – Week 4, Day 2, Level 3: Total of 120. Sets of 22, 26, 23, 23, 26

Making progress and still hitting the prescribed numbers.

May 1, 2014 – Week 4, Day 3, Level 3: Total of 140. Sets of 26, 30, 27, 27, 30

I usually do the pushups in the morning after some coffee. Today I actually did the pushups in the afternoon and I was not confident that I would complete every one. It wasn’t easy…especially the last 13. I did it though!  Next Up – TEST DAY.

May 3, 2014 – TEST – End of Week 4. 63

I was pretty darn nervous about the test today. As you can see from the stats above, I haven’t done more than 30 in a row since the initial test. And that was two weeks ago.

Mentally, my goal was to hit 60 reps. I thought that would be a nice, round number to hit. Now that I think about it, that’s a 25% increase. It’s a good way to start out my Saturday morning!

May 5, 2014 – Week 5, Day 1, Level 3: Total of 137. FAILED. Sets of 33, 37, 20, 22, 25

So I thought I was a little sore but I completely missed the 3rd set. I should have done 28 but only managed 20. Then the last set should have been 30, not 25.

May 8, 2014 – Week 5, Day 1, Level 3: Total of 151. Repeat. Sets of 33, 37, 28, 22, 31

Wow. That was really hard! My arms are spent but my core is not as sore as I expected. I wonder if I need another 2 days of rest….?

May 10, 2014 – Week 5, Day 2, Level 3: Total of 175. Sets of 17, 17, 19, 19, 15, 15, 20, 53.

Today powered by bulletproof coffee. Yeah, that’s right…coffee with butter and coconut oil.

May 13, 2014 – Week 5, Day 3, Level 3: Total of 175. Sets of 18, 18, 21, 21, 17, 17, 20, 43.

I missed the mark on this day. I can’t remember what set though…

May 15, 2014 – Test day. 75.

I can’t believe how much of an improvement I’ve made over the last few weeks!

May 18, 2014 – Week 6, Day 1, Level 3: Total of 175. Sets of 42, 52, 23, 28, 30.

Yeah…I missed the numbers today too. I think it was the middle and last sets. I will take a couple days off to rest up.

May 23, 2014 – Week 6, Day 2, Level 3: Total of 213. Sets of 19, 19, 27, 27, 22, 22, 15, 15, 47.

I finally got past the 175 barrier! I needed the few days off. I actually missed the last rep on the last set.

May 26, 2014 – Week 6, Day 3, Level 3: Total of 229. Sets of 23, 23, 30, 30, 24, 24, 20, 20, 35.

So, I’m filling this after the fact on Aug 21 from here forward.

May 28, 2014 – Week 5, Day 1, Level 3: Total of 170. Sets of 33, 37, 28, 22, 50.

Okay. I skipped the test day because I think I need to go back before testing again.

June 1, 2014 – Week 5, Day 2, Level 3: Total of 177. Sets of 17, 17, 19, 19, 15, 15, 20, 55.

Nice improvement on the last set.

June 5, 2014 – Week 5, Day 3, Level 3: Total of 197. Sets of 18, 18, 21, 21, 17,17, 20, 65.

I took a couple extra days to rest and it really seems to help.

June 7, 2014 – Test day. 80.

I was a little disappointed to only improve by 5. I probably should have taken a few more days off to rest.
